During the 19th World Saxophone Congress held in Las Palmas, Spain, on Dec 9, the city of Harbin in Northeast China's Heilongjiang province successfully competed against Belém in Brazil and Seoul in South Korea, securing the hosting rights for the 20th World Saxophone Congress.
As the first Chinese city to bid for the World Saxophone Congress, a representative from the Harbin culture, broadcasting, and tourism bureau presented the World Saxophone Committee with detailed information about Harbin's century-long cultural heritage and the advantages of hosting the congress.
With the support of a video and powerpoint presentation from the Chinese Music Association Saxophone Committee, Harbin won the hosting rights for the 20th World Saxophone Congress with a decisive majority vote.
In August 2025, the 20th World Saxophone Congress will join the 37th Harbin Charming Summer Music Fair, alongside the Schoenfeld International String Competition and Harbin International Accordion Art Week, to enrich Harbin’s summer music events.
