Sinopec's shale gas well 6-2HF at China's largest shale gas field, the Fuling shale gas field, has produced approximately 400 million cubic meters of natural gas so far, said its operator China Petroleum & Chemical Corp, China's largest oil refiner.
Shale gas is mainly methane. It is considered a clean new energy resource. The Fuling gas field, which began commercial development in 2014, has accumulated proven reserves of nearly 900 billion cubic meters. It produces 8.4 billion cubic meters of shale gas per year, said the company.
Located in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, the shale gas well has been providing clean energy for more than ten years, it said.
Shale gas wells with accumulative gas production exceeding 100 million cubic meters account for 55.3 percent of the total amount in the Fuling shale gas field and produced more than 34.3 billion cubic meters of shale gas so far, it said.
