Newly launched 220-kV substation in Luoyang enhances power supply reliability

In a stride toward bolstering its power infrastructure, State Grid Luoyang Power Supply Co has successfully launched the 220-kilovolt Gengshen substation, marking a pivotal addition to the key engineering projects of Henan province's power company.

This substation's commissioning serves as a vital power source for the southern region of Luoyang, optimizing the grid structure, further enhancing power supply reliability, and augmenting regulatory flexibility to meet the burgeoning economic load demand.

The Gengshen substation stands out as Yichuan county's third 220 kV substation and notably, the first fully indoor-arranged intelligent substation in the area.

To help boost the industrial development in Yichuan county, the Luoyang unit made plans for the Gengshen substation with a total investment of 127 million yuan ($17.8 million).

The project encompasses a newly built substation with a capacity of 240 megavolt-amperes, along with 8.9 kilometers of new 220-kV lines and 29 towers.

The Gengshen substation incorporates intelligent features, utilizing fiber optic transmissions instead of traditional cable transmissions for signaling. This innovative approach significantly reduces cable usage, coupled with intelligent terminals, consolidation units, and new technologies and equipment, enables automatic functions like information collection, measurement, control and detection.

"Electric grid construction acts as the vanguard for driving local economic development. From January to October, Yichuan's total electricity consumption exceeded 8.32 billion kilowatt-hours, showcasing the dynamic force behind Yichuan's high-quality development," said Jiang Yanping, deputy head of the county.

Yichuan aims to focus on the overall objective of becoming a county with a GDP exceeding 100 billion yuan by 2030 and a top-notch county-level innovation hub in the province, Jiang said.

To ensure timely operation, the construction of the Gengshen substation witnessed detailed engineering management and stringent quality control by the Luoyang power company.

Zhang Dawei, general manager of the Yichuan County Power Supply Co, said the completion of the substation further reinforces the power grid in southern Luoyang.

It comprehensively enhances power supply reliability, regulatory flexibility and safety operational levels, effectively meeting the electricity demand for projects including a manufacturing development zone and an industrial park.

The establishment provides robust electrical support to promote the county's objective of boosting its GDP and stands as a solid power guarantee for Luoyang's economic and social development, Zhang said.

Currently, Luoyang Power Supply Co is accelerating various power grid construction projects while continually optimizing service measures.

The State Grid is striving to constantly enhance the public's sense of obtaining electricity services, happiness and safety, providing a robust and reliable power guarantee for the city.
