Twenty-one shipbuilding and marine engineering companies from Zhoushan, Zhejiang province attended the Marintec China 2023 in Shanghai on Dec 5.
The expo was again held on-site after a four-year hiatus, and more than 2,000 companies from 30 countries attended.
The expo offers insight into China's shipbuilding and marine engineering equipment, shipping, and port industries. It promotes communication and cooperation between China and foreign countries in the fields of maritime technology, trade, ship financing, safety insurance, regulations, and environmental protection.
Representatives of Zhoushan companies engaged with more than 300 professional buyers on the first day of the expo and received prospective orders worth over $5 million.
From January to October, Zhoushan completed construction on 1.55 million deadweight tons of ships, a year-on-year increase of 33.5 percent, received new orders for 5.37 million deadweight tons, an increase of 194.2 percent, held orders for 8.39 million deadweight tons, an increase of 90.5 percent, and repaired 1,982 foreign vessels, achieving an output value of 7.75 billion yuan ($1.09 billion), a 35.4 percent increase.
The export value of its shipbuilding industry reached 17.14 billion yuan, a 26.3 percent increase, and the total output value of maritime services exceeded 36.5 billion yuan for the first nine months.
