Ancient colored glaze art shines with new brilliance

An exhibition of Shanxi's colored glaze art opened at the Shanxi Art Museum in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, on Dec 1. 

Hosted by the Shanxi Sculpture Association and other organizations, the exhibition showcases nearly 140 pieces of Shanxi-colored glaze blending traditional craftsmanship with modern civilization, and present the exquisite charm of ancient colored glaze techniques in architecture, sculptures, and more.

In ancient China, from imperial gardens and temples to decorative screens and literary ornaments, colored glaze was an indispensable element. Shanxi, the main production area of colored glaze in China, boasts a long history, earning it the title "Home of Chinese Colored Glaze Art." 

The exhibition curators hoped that this event will attract more people to appreciate the beauty of ancient glaze craftsmanship, inspire more folk artists to transform Shanxi's rich cultural resources into outstanding works and exquisite products and let ancient techniques shine with a new brilliance. 

The exhibition will last until Dec 10.
