Birdwatcher Lin Yikan recently recorded a long-tailed duck at a wetland in Baiquan town, Dinghai district, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, according to local media reports.
Lin said that this is the first time the bird species has been spotted in the city and its presence attracted dozens of enthusiastic photographers from cities such as Hangzhou and Wenzhou.
The long-tailed duck is mainly distributed throughout the Northern Hemisphere and breeds in the Arctic region. It is a very rare winter migrant bird and is classified as a vulnerable species on the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List.
