The 9th Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Development and Science Conference opened in Tonghua, Northeast China's Jilin province, on Nov 25.
Based on the theme "Scientific Development of TCM and Chinese-style Modernization", the conference pooled wisdom and strengthened exchanges and cooperation.
At the conference, He Wei, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislative body, stressed that Northeast China is rich in TCM resources.
Through technological empowerment and innovation-driven development, TCM can inject new vitality into the revitalization of northeastern China in the new era, he said.
Hu Yuting, governor of Jilin, said Jilin is famous nationwide for its TCM industry and history, adding that it enjoys unique advantages in terms of its TCM resources.
Jilin will continue to take advantage of its medicinal resources, transform resource advantages into development boons, and build the ginseng industry reaching a scale of 100 billion yuan ($13.98 billion), he said.
It will also develop a "TCM +" strategy based on new forms and models, create a group of well-known TCM brands, gather a high-level team of talents, and establish bases for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements in TCM, Hu added.
In addition, the province will optimize the development environment for TCM, and work with all parties to write a new chapter in the building of a healthy China, the governor said.
During the conference, experts and scholars delivered academic reports on the national strategy for TCM's development and innovation, the health and economic value of ginseng, and other topics.
