Dr Lu Weixi, head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Baotou Central Hospital and a member of the 23rd batch of the Chinese medical team aiding Rwanda, recently performed a successful surgery on an African woman with a massive pelvic tumor at Kibungo Hospital in Rwanda's Eastern Province.

The removed tumor had a diameter of 40 centimeters and weighed 9 kilograms.

The patient, a 30-year-old local resident, noticed her abdomen growing larger a year ago. Due to her poor economic situation, she had not sought medical attention until recently, when her mobility and breathing were severely affected, significantly impacting her daily activities and eating.

Before the surgery, Lu and her team carefully planned the operation. According to Lu, the unusually large tumor indicated a rich blood supply, posing a challenge in controlling bleeding during the operation. They had to ensure effective hemostasis and blood transfusion while removing the tumor.

During the operation, as anticipated by Lu, a significant bleeding episode occurred due to the many blood vessels around the tumor. After promptly ligating and stopping the bleeding, the tumor was successfully removed from the abdominal cavity.

However, immediately after the tumor was removed, the patient experienced a drop in blood pressure and an increase in heart rate due to the sudden release of pressure on the abdominal cavity. Lu stabilized the patient's vital signs through pressure adjustment and medication.

"Thank you so much, Chinese doctors!" were the first words uttered by the patient upon regaining consciousness. Seven days later, the patient was discharged with her abdominal incision healing up nicely.
