Shenyang, the capital city of Liaoning province, recently hosted the 2023 International Forum on Winter Sports and Technological Development.
The event attracted international and domestic experts and scholars in the ice and snow field to discuss strategies for the high-quality development of winter sports in China.
"This is the first time that I've been able to experience and see where these great athletes, Xu Mengtao and Qi Guangpu, come from," said Joseph Fitzgerald, the coordinator and event director of the International Ski Federation (FIS) who was hired as a consultant at Genting Snow Park, an Olympic venue in the co-host city Zhangjiakou, Hebei province.
Xu Mengtao, Qi Guangpu, and Jia Zongyang, who are Olympic champions, graduated from Shenyang Sports University and have become household names in the winter sports industry.
The forum received over 400 papers on the topic. Sub-forums covered an array of themes, including competitive ice and snow sports, mass participation in ice and snow sports, intelligent and high-quality development of ski resorts, and the development of high-tech winter sports equipment.
Zhang Xiaowei, manager of Yingkou Alliance Sports Equipment Co., Ltd, expressed confidence in the potential for Liaoning's ice and snow athletes to achieve even better results in major sports events with the support of high technology.
