In recent years, Ordos city has been actively promoting the improvement of saline-alkali land, gradually transforming it into standard farmland and "floating pastures".
Ordos has 9.04 million mu (602,666.67 hectares) of cultivated land. Of this, about 1.95 million mu is saline-alkali land, and around 860,000 mu is moderate to severe saline-alkali land.
From 2019 to 2023, courtesy of a farmland upgrading project, Ordos successfully treated 215,000 mu of light saline-alkali cultivated land.
It also put in place demonstration projects for the improvement of moderately and severely salinized cultivated land in Dalad Banner and Hanggin Banner, covering an area of 41,000 mu.
This has led to 400,000 mu of saline-alkali cultivated land being improved with the assistance of local farmers.
Guided by local policies, various new projects have been developed to ensure this land can be fully utilized in several regions along the Yellow River in Ordos, including rice-fish integrated farming, mixed aquaculture of fish and shrimps, and green and efficient breeding.
