The Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (Hannan district) Xique Lake Crab Culture Festival was held on Nov 8, with a large number of mature local crabs entering the market.
The Xique Lake Crab Farming Base is a national-level standardized demonstration area for green Chinese mitten crabs connected to the Yangtze, Dongjing, and Tongshun rivers. It is located next to the Wuhu Lake Wetland Nature Reserve and has excellent water quality, making it very suitable for farming crabs, soft-shelled turtles, and other aquatic products.

Cheng Youhe, vice president of the Chinese River Crab Association, said that the Xique Lake Crab Farming Base adopts a simulated ecological farming model, feeding crabs live fresh fish, snails, wheat and corn. The feed is a combination of meat and vegetables, and the average weight of the crabs produced is 175 to 200 grams.
Due to different geographical conditions and climates, crabs from the lake enter the market half a month later than those produced in Jiangsu province, and the lake is expected to generate 800,000 kilograms of crabs this year.
