Quzhou expert becomes academician of Russian Academy of Engineering

Professor Li Yanjun, a bamboo expert from Kaihua county, Quzhou, has been elected as a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Engineering, according to a letter and certificate from the academy.

The Russian Academy of Engineering is a prestigious and influential institution in Russia that covers engineering science and applied science. It is also a comprehensive research and development center and an all-Russian public organization.

Li Yanjun works at Nanjing Forestry University and Zhejiang A&F University as a doctoral supervisor and a leader in bamboo research. He also heads several national and provincial associations related to the bamboo industry.

Li was born in a village in Kaihua county in 1970. Since graduating from university, he has devoted himself to teaching and research in wood science and technology.

He and his team have made many breakthroughs and innovations in the processing and application of bamboo, such as proposing the dry-wet composite gluing theory for preparing wet bamboo materials, which enriched the basic theory of artificial board surface decoration.

He also solved the world-class problem of ultra-thin large-format bamboo decorative materials and created a new product – a high-end bamboo decorative artificial board.

He also developed outdoor environmentally-friendly high-performance bamboo products, making China the only country in the world with a complete set of production technology and products for outdoor bamboo reconstituted materials using high-temperature heat-treated bamboo bundles as raw materials.
