Seafood market conference opens in Zhoushan

The 2023 China Seafood Market Conference was held in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province on Nov 2, according to local media reports.

At the conference, the China Aquatic Products Circulation and Processing Association awarded the Zhoushan International Aquatic Products Trade Center with plaques for "China Swimming Crab Trading Center" and "China Hairtail Trading Center".

Both parties signed agreements to advance the brand building of the two centers and the China swimming crab price index. 

The Zhoushan International Aquatic Products Trade Center is the largest origin-based aquatic products distribution center in China, with a total of 910,000 metric tons of seafood traded and a transaction value of 17.2 billion yuan ($2.36 billion) in 2022. 

The trading volume of swimming crab reached 300,000 tons, accounting for approximately 65 percent of the national total, while the trading volume of hairtail amounted to 120,000 tons, representing around 13 percent of the national total.

Zou Guohua, deputy secretary-general of the China Aquatic Products Circulation and Processing Association, noted at the conference that the release of the Chinese hairy crab price index is an important step in promoting the Chinese hairy crab trading center in the city, and establishing diverse seafood brands is key to advancing the high-quality development of the city's modern fishing industry. 

Top experts, scholars, and leading enterprise representatives in market development and brand building from both inside and outside the province also attended the conference, during which they gave keynote speeches and participated in in-depth discussions on topics revolving around promoting agricultural brand construction and ensuring the safety of aquatic products.
