Ordos adds national honor in ecological civilization construction

Ordos city, located in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, was awarded the title of "National Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Zone" on Oct 28.

The award ceremony was held in Jinan, East China's Shandong province, as part of the induction activities for the seventh batch of National Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Cities and Counties and the bases practicing the concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets".

Huang Runqiu, the Minister of Ecology and Environment, presented the award to Ordos, honoring its efforts to promote ecological civilization.

Over the years, Ordos has been engaging in holistic and systematic ways of protecting and managing its mountains, waters, forests, fields, lakes, grasslands, and sandy areas. Based on this, it has established an efficient model for ecological construction.

In a bid to further this ecological upgrade, the city has completed its "Ordos Plan on Building a Demonstration City for Ecological Civilization Construction (2021-35)" as well as an implementation plan, setting a high standard for ecological development.

These strategic plans have set forth 36 key performance indicators covering six major areas, namely, ecological regulations, ecological safety, ecological space, ecological economy, ecological lifestyle, and ecological culture.

These initiatives are aimed at promoting overall improvements in the quality of the ecological environment as well as elevating the diversity, stability, and sustainability of the local ecosystem.
