The Global Low-carbon Metallurgical Innovation Alliance recently held its annual conference in East China's Shanghai, where the Baogang Group was approved as a new member of the body.
Established in 2021, the alliance is a collaborative effort comprising well-known companies, universities and research institutions from 15 countries.
Its international members include leading corporations such as ArcelorMittal, Thyssenkrupp, Tata and Rio Tinto – along with various research institutions and engineering technology companies.
Chinese members consist of the steel groups Baowu, Ansteel, HBIS, Shougang and Shagang, as well as numerous research institutions and universities.
The mission of the alliance is to consolidate R&D resources from the global metallurgy industry, establish a platform for green and low-carbon metallurgical technology innovation exchanges and thereby promote the low-carbon transformation of the steel industry. What's more, alliance members are committed to collectively addressing climate change.
Baogang Group's participation is expected to help accelerate the overcoming of various barriers in the sector's green and low-carbon transformation – including resources, policies, technology, research, talent and information.
Moving forwards, plans are for Baogang Group to collaborate with other alliance members to explore technological pathways for low-carbon transformation – in a joint effort to advance the low-carbonization and sustainable development of the global metallurgy industry.
