The 2023 Harvest Picking Festival and the first Livestreaming E-commerce Skills Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition were held in Pingyao county, North China's Shanxi province, on Oct 21-22.

Organized by the Pingyao bureau of industry and information technology, the latter consisted of a short video creation competition and a livestreaming skills competition.

The aim was to cultivate and develop a talent pool in the field of livestreaming for e-commerce, improve people's professional skills and local employment services, and lower the jobless rate.

In an orchard of Nanyijian village in Zhukeng township, over 100 e-commerce insiders showcased their talents by creating short videos and conducting livestreaming sales. They promoted the village's apples to netizens, enhancing the visibility of local agricultural products, boosting local industry development and increasing farmers' incomes.

The livestreaming attracted 270,000 viewers and generated sales of over 30,000 yuan ($4,120.80). The videos received 50 million views in total.

Additionally, 21 internet celebrities and sales anchors signed long-term contracts with fruit farmers, while 29 short video bloggers said they will continue to promote Nanyijian village through their lens.

Dong Wenping, an official from Zhukeng township, said the competition has promoted the development of a new rural e-commerce model in the township. It has also opened up new sales channels, and further explored and cultivated local sales experts, he added. It has also attracted more public attention, understanding, and trust in local agricultural products.
