Shanxi-made film about opera master premieres in Pingyao

An Actress With A Name, a Chinese film produced in Shanxi province, was selected for the "Made-in-Shanxi" section at the ongoing 7th Pingyao International Film Festival and it premiered in Pingyao county on Oct 14. 

Based on the life experiences of renowned Jinju Opera performer Cheng Yuying (1920-2015), the film depicts her artistic journey spanning more than 80 years. 

The movie was jointly shot by the Publicity Department of the CPC Jinzhong Municipal Committee, the CPC Pingyao County Committee, the Pingyao government, Jinzhong bureau of culture and tourism, Jinzhong Art School, Jinzhong Film and Television Artists Association, and Shenzen Nawen Vision Culture Media Co. It was produced by Shanxi Norun Culture Media Co and Qixian Yuezhisheng Culture Media Co.

At the ceremony marking its premiere, the production team shared their experiences and insights with the audience. 

"No matter what we do or what profession we are in, I believe we should pursue something more spiritual and internal. Just like Miss Cheng, who dedicated her entire life to Jinju Opera, we should never stop striving. It is because of her lifelong dedication that she achieved great success. I think persistence is the key in anything we do," said Lou Shuyu, the actress who portrays Cheng Yuying in the film. 

This film promotes traditional culture and showcases the charm of Jinju Opera. Through vivid storytelling, distinct characters and a tight plot, it comprehensively portrays the lives of Cheng Yuying and her contemporaries, who represent a group of Jinju Opera performers of that era, and gives audiences a deeper understanding of the art.
