CCTV report: Baotou new energy heavy trucks boost 'dual carbon' goals

Baotou city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has garnered attention on China Central Television's Morning News program for its rapid development in the new energy heavy truck industry, making a significant contribution to the national goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.

The new energy vehicle manufacturing industry in Baotou has seen remarkable growth recently, with a particular focus on new energy heavy trucks. This growth is characterized by increasing annual sales, the expanding and strengthening of industrial supply chains, and fostering innovation through collaboration with leading enterprises.

Beiben Trucks Group Co, for instance, has continually upgraded its pure electric vehicle models, with its technology now advancing to the fifth generation, accompanied by ongoing software system enhancements. The price per unit of the same vehicle model has recently dropped from over 800,000 yuan ($109,489) to 600,000 yuan. 

"From 2018 until now, Beiben has cooperatively developed dozens of new energy heavy truck models, continuously improving both components and whole vehicle technologies. Currently, our first-generation pure electric heavy trucks are still in service and remain in excellent condition," said Zhang Xiaodong, deputy chief designer at the Beiben Heavy Truck Innovation Research Institute.

Baotou's new energy heavy trucks have also been used to transport coal, boosting efficiency in the industry and reducing pollution. These efforts have positioned Baotou as a leading region in the new energy vehicle manufacturing industry and hold the potential to offer valuable insights for achieving nationwide clean transportation goals.
