Hohhot city strives to be China's Cloud Valley

This year, Hohhot – capital city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – has started construction on 30 big data industry projects.

These include data centers from the three major telecom operators – China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom – as well as projects from Huawei Cloud and the Bank of China's data center.

The total investment to completion is estimated at 68.55 billion yuan ($9.39 billion), with a planned investment this year of 5.43 billion yuan. By the end of August, a total investment of 5.58 billion yuan had been spent – exceeding the annual target investment.

It's expected that projects – including Inner Mongolia Power Co and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank's data centers – will commence construction in 2024.

In recent years, Hohhot has accelerated the development of its digital economy infrastructure with computing power as its core.

It's actively attracted leading companies in the digital economy sector – among them, Huawei Cloud, Business-intelligence of Oriental Nations Co and Inspur – to cluster and develop and it has accelerated the layout and construction of digital economy industrial parks.

It aims to establish a new industrial ecosystem and cultivate emerging driving forces.

Moving forward, plans are for Hohhot to expedite the construction of large-scale green data centers – focusing on areas such as cloud-network integration, distributed storage and blockchain innovation. It will continue to enhance its computing power service capabilities and establish a new intelligent computing power supply center.
