The Baotou Intellectual Property Operations Center for the New Energy Industry was officially inaugurated on Oct 13 at the Northern Qichuan Science and Innovation Park – in Hondlon district of Baotou city, in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Henghai International Intellectual Property Exchange Center announced a public service platform for the Baotou IP operations center for the new energy sector.

The platform will encompass various features such as policy consultations, patent operations and patent databases – with an anticipated launch before the end of the year.

In the run-up to its official launch, the platform has already handled the exchange of over 300 patents and it is linked with international patent databases, primarily serving local enterprises in Baotou. It aims to expand its services nationwide in the future.

Baotou has successfully aggregated its supply chain for the new energy industry and is said to be one of the first cities in the nation with the value of annual solar power production topping 100 billion yuan ($13.68 billion). Overall, it boasts having 11.8 percent of the new energy installed capacity and 11.9 percent of annual electricity production in Inner Mongolia.

The establishment of the center aims to promote innovation and development in the local new energy sector. It will provide patent support, knowledge property management systems and facilitate cost-effective research and development while addressing technological challenges.

The endeavor has received strong support from the Baotou municipal government – emphasizing the collaboration of industry and IP to drive the vigorous growth of the new energy sector.
