The annual report on urban transportation development in Xi'an in 2022 was recently released. It was compiled by the Xi'an natural resource and planning bureau and the Xi'an Urban Planning and Design Institute.
Overall, the scale of transportation in Xi'an decreased over the past year. The Xi'an Xianyang International Airport saw a 55.1-percent decrease in annual passenger throughput, railway passenger volume decreased by 40 percent, and road passenger transportation saw a decrease of 34.5 percent.
The total volume of cargo transported in the city was 268.32 million metric tons, a slight decrease of 0.8 percent compared to the previous year.
Furthermore, the total number of passengers using public transportation in the city was 1.55 billion, a decrease of 27 percent.
In 2022, the development of a comprehensive international transportation hub in Xi'an was accelerated, with steady progress made in the third-phase project of the Xi'an Xianyang International Airport and the completion of basic construction on the Lantian General Airport.
To alleviate traffic congestion in the central urban area, the Xi'an Central Urban Area Traffic Optimization and Improvement Plan and Three-year Action Plan has been implemented since 2020.
Over the past three years, the city has improved 83 traffic congestion points and standardized 89 intersections.
Meanwhile, Xi'an has been promoting the development of green transportation by establishing a dedicated green commuting demonstration section for bicycles and a green travel evaluation index system.
Throughout 2022, Xi'an promoted the construction of 102 public parking lots, creating 22,000 public parking spaces. The city currently has about 176,000 parking lots, with 3.35 million parking spaces for private cars.
Additionally, the Xi'an Smart Parking Integrated Service Platform has been launched, providing convenient services such as parking information, parking space guidance, and ETC payment.
