Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, held a cultural and tourism promotion conference in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on Oct 9.

It is also the most important cultural exchange activity in Central Asia for Xi'an after the China-Central Asia Summit this year.

At the promotion conference, Zuo Dong, deputy director of the Xi'an municipal administration of culture and tourism, and Ibragimov Nozir Alievich, assistant to the governor of Samarkand, signed a memorandum of cooperation on culture and tourism between Xi'an and Samarkand.

The memorandum includes mutual assistance in organizing promotional activities in both cities, sending delegations to participate in international cultural and tourism exchanges held by the two cities, carrying out cultural and artistic exchanges, and organizing performances.

On the same day, the Xi'an-Samarkand Human Exchange Base was established at Samarkand State University.

This means that both cities will regularly engage in cultural exchanges, personnel training, and high-level visits, particularly in the fields of tourism, archaeology, and intangible cultural heritage. This will lay a solid foundation for the preservation and promotion of the Silk Road culture.
