Over the 2023 Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, travel bookings to Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, saw a year-on-year increase of 896 percent, according to Ctrip, a Chinese online travel agency.
The Guiyang municipal bureau of culture and tourism said that during the holidays, tourism in Guiyang boomed with key indicators such as number of tourist arrivals, total tourism revenue, and per capita spending all surpassing the same period in 2019.
During this period, 45 of Guiyang's key scenic spots were visited 2.39 million times. The average occupancy rate of key monitored hotels in the city was around 70 percent.
According to incomplete statistics, as of Oct 6, Guiyang had hosted 461 events, including musical performances, exhibitions, theatrical productions, markets, and performances, providing a diverse range of options for both tourists and residents and showcasing the unique charm of "Cool Guiyang".
Special National Day performances of the Guiyang Roadside Music Concert at Wenchang Pavilion were held from Oct 2 to 4, with nearly 7,000 people attending in-person and nearly 22 million people watching the live stream.
On Sept 29, Phase One of Caozhuangyuan Street in Nanming district officially opened, attracting more than 40,000 visitors. During the holiday, it was visited approximately 257,000 times and generated around 9.68 million yuan ($1.33 million) in sales, becoming a new "hotspot" in the city.
