SJTU hosts intl freshmen orientation

Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) recently held its international freshman orientation.

During the event, Xu Xuemin, vice-president of SJTU, extended a warm welcome to over 600 international freshmen hailing from more than 90 countries.

Xu emphasized the university's commitment to fostering top-notch talent and promoting academic excellence through interdisciplinary training. She encouraged the international freshmen to interact with students from diverse cultural backgrounds, acquire knowledge in an international setting, and develop a global perspective alongside their academic pursuits.

Ma Wei, director of the International Student Development Center, shared valuable insights into the university's history, international student composition, and the responsibilities of the international student management department. His presentation served as a guide for the international freshmen on navigating their lives and studies at SJTU.

Wang Qian, a teacher, underscored the abundant learning and research opportunities available at the university.

Daniela Mata, a student, delivered an insightful speech about her decision to attend SJTU and the valuable experiences she gained from studying and living there. She emphasized the exceptional learning opportunities provided by SJTU and encouraged her fellow students to actively engage with this invaluable platform. Moreover, she urged them to demonstrate bravery in the face of unfamiliarity, pushing boundaries and overcoming their insecurities. She inspired them to become adventurous, contributing to the world's development in their own unique ways.

The event also featured sessions on safety education and visa and entry regulations.

To ensure a seamless enrollment process for international students, the university established one-stop registration service booths at three convenient locations. These booths provided assistance with admissions procedures and visa processing and offered new student gift packages.

Additionally, the university plans to organize more welcoming activities such as campus visits and entrance education, aiming to help international students integrate into the university community and foster a sense of belonging at SJTU.
