A China-aided project of the 2023 Pacific Games Stadium was recently handed over to the Solomon Islands. It was built by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC). It is the first major infrastructural project supported by the Chinese government since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
With a floor area of approximately 26,000 square meters, the project is in Honiara, capital city of the Solomon Islands. It consists of seven stadiums, which are the main stadium with a capacity of over 10,000 people, an aquatic sports center, a tennis court, a hockey pitch, and a multi-purpose service hall.
The 17th Pacific Games will be held in the project this November and is expected to be attended by over 5,000 athletes from 24 countries.
