The first phase of a processing project for sweet corn in Juungar Banner of Ordos city commenced production on Sept 16, with the second phase of construction also starting that day.
This is a key agricultural project jointly developed and operated by the cooperative of Shierliancheng township and Juungar Yuhe Food Co.
The total investment is 100 million yuan ($14.27 million), including cold storage, warehousing, a packaging workshop, a raw material workshop, and related machinery and equipment.
Among these, a workshop for frozen fresh sweet corn with an annual production capacity of 50 million cobs has been completed, and another workshop for vacuum-packed fresh sweet corn with the same annual capacity will be completed by the end of this year.

When the project is in full swing, it will be able to produce 100 million cobs a year, making Shierliancheng township the largest single production base in the country.
Together with a similar project with a production capacity of 50 million sobs planned by Dongda Group in Shierliancheng, the annual production capacity of sweet corn in the township is expected to reach 150 million cobs, with an estimated annual output value of 300 million yuan.
Also on Sept 16, 30 purchasing companies from across the country signed contracts, with 30 million corn cobs to be bought for a total of 50 million yuan.
