On Sept 13, the Seniors University of the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WEDZ), located near South Taizi Lake, officially opened and held its autumn opening ceremony.
The university has 13 classrooms for calligraphy, painting, physical training, vocal music, musical instruments, and handicrafts. It is also equipped with smart information technology equipment. It can enroll up to 7,000 students per semester.
During the construction of the new campus, the basic infrastructure was renovated to be elderly-friendly, with facilities such as accessible passageways and handrails in staircases, elevators, and emergency call devices.

The university admits students over the age of 50, and each student can enroll in up to four courses, with each course costing around 100 yuan ($13.93). This year, more than 10 new courses, including Guzheng, handicrafts, and electronic equipment, have been added based on the needs of the elderly.
"At the university, I have learned a lot, made friends with like-minded people, broadened my horizons, and enriched my retirement," said Mrs Huang, who has been studying at the university for seven years.
