Located in Chengkan village – once praised as the best village in Jiangnan, or the region south of the Yangtze River, by the famous Song Dynasty (960-1279) Confucian scholar Zhu Xi – the Shudetang, or Su House, is one of the most tranquil homestays in Huangshan city, Anhui province.
The homestay boasts seven connected and well-preserved ancient Huizhou-style residences that can be traced back to the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties and 18 superbly decorated guest rooms.
Su Tong, the owner of the homestay, is the 38th descendant of Su Zhe (1039-1112), a celebrated literary master and official in the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and "Shu De Tang" is also the name used by her ancestors.
