Green food industry
Huangshan and the province has a thriving green food sector – with various specialist industrial bases, an area dedicated to Chinese agricultural products and four areas in Anhui producing characteristic agricultural products that together work some 2.43 million mu of land.
Moreover, the city boasts 11 well-known trademarks and nine geographical indications for its agricultural products, a status that indicates that a product has a specific geographical origin and possesses qualities or a reputation due to that origin. There are 64 tea producers above a designated size in the area administered by the metropolis. The area given over to tea plantations and the output of tea account for one third of that from all Anhui province.
The export volume and export value account for one sixth and one ninth, respectively, of the entire country. As such, Huangshan is worthy of its nickname as the "Famous tea city in China". In its ready-made food industry, the annual output value of smelly mandarin fish – one of the most famous Anhui dishes – comes in at nearly 4 billion yuan.
Moving forward, Huangshan plans to focus on processing featured agricultural products, ready-made dishes, snacks, natural drinking water and to expand wine production, among other things.
