LUANDA -- A children's care center in the Angolan capital of Luanda has received a donation of materials worth 9,000 U.S. dollars from a Chinese company that won praise for improving the living conditions of local vulnerable children.
Chinese oil giant Sinopec on Friday delivered educational supplies, food, clothing, and baby products to Lar Kuzola, an official institution that provides social assistance to underprivileged children in Angola.
Elisa Kuzola, head of the Pedagogical Department at Lar Kuzola, expressed her gratitude on behalf of the children who benefited from the social responsibility initiative of the Chinese company. She said these materials will "ensure a better quality of the children's future life."
"We greatly appreciate the presence of Chinese companies engaging in economic activities here to assist in the social sphere. It is very beneficial to us, especially because there are many vulnerable children and families at risk," she said.
She said Lar Kuzola has been operating in Luanda for more than 35 years, providing shelter for over 300 at-risk Angolan children, encompassing those under 14 who have been abandoned and teenagers with congenital diseases whose parents lack the means to care for them.
"We welcome the donations as we receive children daily and aim to provide them with dignified care and accommodation," Kuzola added.
According to Paulo Pizarro, vice president of Sinopec Angola, the company has a long-standing commitment to Angola, actively participating in various social projects.
"We contribute to the petroleum sector, pay taxes, and promote our social responsibility through social projects. This is a way to support the economic and social development of Angola," he said.
This is the first donation from this Chinese company to Lar Kuzola. Previously, the Chinese Embassy in Angola also offered food and toys to this childcare institution ahead of International Children's Day, receiving a warm welcome from the children.
