Event held to showcase Yellow River, Grand Canal culture

The 2023 Exchange and Exhibition Week for Intangible Cultural Heritage along the Yellow River Basin and Grand Canal is being held from Sept 7 to 10 at the Fuhua International Convention and Exhibition Center in Weifang, East China's Shandong province.

The event is guided by the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Shandong province and the Weifang Municipal Government, and hosted by the Weifang municipal bureau of culture and tourism.

During the exhibition, the nine provinces and autonomous regions along the Yellow River are showcasing their most distinctive intangible cultural heritage projects.

The exhibition features a special section showcasing the best of the Yellow River Basin's intangible cultural heritage. There will also be exhibition areas for cities like Xining, Lanzhou and Chengdu to display their cultural offerings.

The provinces and cities along the Grand Canal also have a section showcasing weaving, dyeing, and embroidery and how these crafts are integrated into daily life.

The event gathers 218 intangible cultural heritage projects from and outside the province as well as nearly 300 inheritors.

A forum on the development of cultural protection zones in the Yellow River Basin was held following the opening of the exhibition week.

Intangible cultural heritage practitioners and industry experts from the nine provinces and autonomous regions along the Yellow River were invited to share insights into the construction and development of cultural protection zones over the past decade, and discuss the origins, paths and future of cultural protection of the Yellow River Basin.
