Courts from six cities of China have agreed to increase the sharing of information and their experiences concerning internet justice, so as to jointly advance high-quality development in cyberspace and promote digital economic growth.

The agreement was made between three internet courts and three internet tribunals at a seminar on judiciary and digital governance in Beijing on Wednesday.

The three internet courts are in Beijing, Hangzhou in Zhejiang province and Guangzhou in Guangdong province, while the three internet tribunals are located in Chengdu, Sichuan province, Suzhou, Jiangsu province, and Changchun, Jilin province.

While pledging to improve cyberspace governance by rule of law and provide better legal services for the healthy development of the digital economy, judges from the six cities have also planned to cultivate more talent for the internet justice sector.

To help efficiently solve a rising number internet-related cases and explore legal methods to govern cyberspace, the country set up the three internet courts from 2017 to 2018. Later, several internet tribunals were also established nationwide.

Yang Wanming, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court, China's top court, said at the seminar that the six internet courts and tribunals have played a major role in advancing the law-based cyberspace governance. He called on them to further improve the quality of legal services in digital fields.

How to apply or integrate cutting-edge technologies into case handling in an innovative way also needs to be considered, he added.

The seminar was held by the Beijing Internet Court on Wednesday, attracting many guests from various courts, cyberspace governance departments, colleges, academies and internet enterprises. They exchanged ideas on hot internet-related judicial topics, such as data protection from the perspective of generative artificial intelligence and platform governance in the development of the digital economy.
