Quzhou full of enthusiasm for Asian Games

The Asian Games will kick off in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province on Sept 23.

Go, one of the oldest games originating in Quzhou, will be an Asian Games event again after 13 years. The Chinese Go national team for the Games trained and selected 10 players in Quzhou, aiming for three gold medals.

Quzhou athletes have a shined in the Asian Games before.

Qi Lili, a volleyball player from Quzhou, won the women's volleyball championship with her teammates at the 1986 Seoul Asian Games. Zhan Xugang, a weightlifter from Quzhou, won two Asian Games gold medals in 1994 and 1998. Huang Yaqiong, a badminton player from the city, won the mixed doubles gold medal with her teammate Zheng Siwei at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games and will compete again this year.

China will also participate in the lawn bowls event of the Asian Paralympic Games for the first time. The Chinese national team was organized based on the Quzhou Disabled Lawn Bowls Team, with 12 of 15 members from Quzhou.

Quzhou residents are also full of enthusiasm and hope for the Games.

Farmer painters in Yudong village created a large painting to welcome the Games. Intangible cultural heritage inheritors from Changshan county showcased their skills with egg carvings, bamboo weavings and folk songs themed on the Games.

In addition, Quzhou offers free visits to 14 scenic spots for Asian Games participants and Hangzhou citizens and will issue tourism coupons.
