The four summer school programs held by the Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) this year attracted 86 foreigners from 18 countries who got to learn Chinese, experience Chinese culture, and explore Shanghai.
In addition to language classes, the students took part in a host of traditional culture experience activities and got to learn about Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting, tai chi, and Chinese painting. They also enjoyed performances of traditional Chinese folk music, shadow puppetry, and Sichuan opera.
Special lectures on China's culture were also organized. Renowned experts and scholars delivered talks about topics like China's role in global governance, modern urban development in Shanghai, and traditional Chinese medicine.
To help the students gain a deeper understanding of Shanghai's culture and customs, cultural visits and study activities were organized. The students visited popular landmarks such as the Bund, Oriental Pearl, and Xintiandi, and had the opportunity to explore local communities and interact with residents.
"Being a part of the summer school was definitely an unforgettable experience. I would like to return to China in the future to deepen my knowledge and improve my Chinese language skills," said Daria Banasiewicz from Poland.
