Public bidding is underway for construction of a new high-speed railway station in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone on Hengqin Island in Zhuhai, Guangdong province.
The Hengqin high-speed railway station, together with its integrated and supporting rail transit projects, will include an integrated passenger transport hub in Hengqin, located at the mouth of the Pearl River, according to a report from Guangdong Radio and Television.
The project, which will connect with Macao's light rail services is expected to play an important role in accelerating and promoting the high-quality integrated development of the Macao Special Administrative Region and Guangdong province, it said.
The Hengqin high-speed railway station, the starting station of the Hezhou-Hengqin section of the Guangzhou-Zhuhai-Macao high-speed railway, is also an important component of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao high-speed railway, linking Macao to the mainland, according to the urban planning and construction bureau of the cooperation zone.
Situated in the urban area of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone, the Hengqin high-speed railway station is expected to help further expand cooperation and exchanges between Hengqin in the western part of the Pearl River estuary (bordering Macao) and promote the SAR's integrated development with the motherland, the bureau said.
