The journey from Nanning to Guiyang has been shortened to less than three hours on Fuxing bullet trains, as the Guiyang-Nanning high-speed railway became fully operational on Thursday.
The new line is 482 kilometers long, connecting Nanning in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region with Guiyang, Guizhou province.
Situated in southwestern China, both Guizhou or Guangxi are famous for their karst landscapes.
The Guiyang-Nanning line is the first to be designed for speeds of 350 kilometers per hour.
Residents in mountainous areas will especially benefit from the fast train.
Wei Liuyan, a folk singer, can't help performing to express her joy in the coach of one of the trains. Her hometown is situated in Hechi, Guangxi, which had no rail connection with Nanning before. The new line connects Nanning with Hechi, with travel time of around one hour.
"It used to take us four hours to get to Nanning by bus and five more to get to Guiyang by train. Now that we have the Fuxing bullet train, we will no doubt go Guiyang more frequently. So there will be more people and culture exchanges between the two places," Wei said.
