The project to trace the origins of Chinese civilization in Suzhou commenced on Nov 28, 2022, which also marked the beginning of the eighth excavation of the Caoxieshan archaeological site on the southern shore of Yangcheng Lake in Suzhou, Jiangsu province.
Discovered in 1956, the site has a history of more than 6,000 years, and is currently the only site in China where all cultural remains from the Neolithic period are presented at the same location. It provides representative cultural relics for research on the history of the Taihu Lake region and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
