“The process of preparing for the play was like we were also waiting for something to come, whether inspiration or a new interpretation,” he adds. “The play is famously mysterious and open-ended, which raised a lot of philosophical questions for us. We were just like Vladimir and Estragon, waiting for answers.”
The director says that the one of the key missions of the revival is to use daily language to make the conversations as natural as possible.
The stage set will include mirrors to reflect the actors onstage as well as the audience, which Fang says will help build a conversation between actors and audiences.
A number of young actors from the Beijing People’s Art Theater will perform in the play, including Sun Xiaoxiao, Zhang Hansheng and Jin Han.
