The first volleyball invitational tournament for farmers and herders from North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region and Shanxi province, as well as Northwest China's Shaanxi province, Gansu province and Ningxia Hui autonomous region, officially kicked off in Otog Front Banner of Ordos city on Aug 22.
The tournament will run from Aug 22-25.
More than 800 farmers and herders from 87 teams participated. The competition comprises three events: men's volleyball, women's volleyball, and mixed volleyball, with the mixed event divided into youth and senior groups.

This tournament provides a platform for communication and self-expression for farmers and herders who love volleyball, as well as helping them improve their physical fitness and enrich their leisure time.
In Angsu town of Otog Front Banner, volleyball has become a popular sport. With a population of less than 8,000 permanent residents, Angsu town has 49 fixed volleyball teams and more than 5,000 volleyball enthusiasts.
Almost every village and residential community in the town has volleyball courts. Volleyball competitions have become a bond that unites farmers and herders there.
