The 9th Kubuqi International Desert Forum is set to be held in the Kubuqi Desert in the city of Ordos from Aug 25 to 27, according to a press conference on Aug 21.
Co-hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional People's Government, the forum aims to promote technological innovation in desertification control and ecological civilization construction, as well as share China's experience in sand control and land restoration.
Based on the theme of "Leading Sand Control with Technology, Benefiting Humanity with Deserts", this year's forum has invited the United Nations Environment Programme and the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification as co-organizers.
It will include four main forums focusing on desert biodiversity conservation and sustainable resource utilization, sandstorm control and scientific sand control, integrated treatment of mountains, rivers, forests, farmland, lakes, grass, and sand, as well as ecological restoration through the application of knowledge and technology.
More than 300 attendees, including foreign political figures, representatives from UN agencies, leaders from relevant ministries and commissions, as well as experts, scholars, and entrepreneurs with backgrounds in China and other countries, have been invited to participate.
The Kubuqi International Desert Forum is the only large-scale international forum dedicated to promoting global desertification control and green economic development.
Since its establishment in 2007, it has been held eight times, making significant contributions to international exchanges and cooperation in the field of ecological civilization and the sharing of ideas and experience in sand control and land restoration.
