Qixi Festival - the seventh day of the seventh lunar month - falls on Aug 22 this year. Originating from the legendary tale of the Cowherd and Weaver Girl, this festival is commonly referred to as Chinese Valentine's Day. It's a special time to celebrate love and make wishes. 1. Making molded breads (ke qiaoguo) 

One of the most representative local customs during the festival is making molded doughs. Local people mix flour with sugar or honey and create intricately patterned breads using molds. They pressed the dough into the molds with designs featuring flowers as well as auspicious animals like fish. The molded breads, known as qiaoguo, are baked on a pan, and are stringed in a group of seven to be worn around children’s necks or wrists for the purpose of warding off evil spirits. Of course they are also filling treats to satisfy the appetite!
