Established in 2000, Jiuquan Economic and Technological Development Zone was upgraded in 2006 into a major provincial one. It has three zones: South Park, West Park, and East Park, with a total planned area of 102.1 square kilometers. Specifically, the South Park is 44.3 sq km, the West Park is 20 sq km, and the East Park is 37.8 sq km.
The zone focuses on project construction, investment attraction, and enterprise services. Six dominant industries have emerged, namely, new energy equipment manufacturing, intelligent manufacturing, new materials, data information, biopharmaceuticals, and modern services. Over the past two years, a total of 84 projects commenced construction, and 51 projects were signed. In the same period, 392 new market entities were established in the zone, bringing the total to 1,301, including 235 industrial enterprises and 52 large-scale ones. Important economic indicators, such as industrial output value, the added value of large-scale industries, and fixed asset investment, have maintained steady double-digit growth.
The zone has made significant progress in the development of its new energy equipment manufacturing industry. Key projects have been implemented, leading enterprises have settled in the zone, and the industrial chain has been extended and strengthened. The industrial output value of the new energy equipment manufacturing industry accounted for 93% of the city's total in 2021, and the goal is to achieve a total output value of 40 billion yuan or more by 2025.
The zone has gathered a variety of central and state-owned enterprises, key production bases, and industry-leading companies. It hosts 193 research and development platforms, technological innovation companies, and renowned products. Among them are seven national research centers, laboratories, and demonstration enterprises, 27 high-tech enterprises, and 31 provincial-level "specialized, refined, distinctive, and new" enterprises, technological innovation demonstration enterprises, and strategic emerging backbone enterprises. The zone has been recognized as a "National Wind Power Equipment High-tech Industrialization Base", "National Industrial Park for Harmonious Labor Relations", and "National Demonstration Base for New Industrialization (Equipment Manufacturing and Energy Equipment)". It is currently striving to become a provincial-level high-tech zone.
The zone emphasizes economic management, streamlines internal departments, and boosts the motivation of staff at all levels. Promoting the "Management Committee + Companies" model, it has established an industrial investment group and a market-oriented service platform that covers financing, investment, construction, operation, and services.
Infrastructure projects, such as research incubation parks, industrial incubation bases, and industrial incubation parks for new materials, machinery manufacturing, and equipment manufacturing, have been implemented in the zone. It has also built standardized workshops, covering a total area of 351,000 square meters. In terms of supporting facilities, the zone has a steam pipeline network spanning 33.51 kilometers, 43 roads covering an area of 1.89 million square meters, a natural gas pipeline network spanning 41 kilometers, a water supply and drainage pipeline network spanning 144.4 kilometers, and a power transmission line spanning 391.4 kilometers. Additionally, the zone has fully equipped facilities such as a sewage treatment plant, heat supply plant, water plant, talent apartments, public rental housing, and shared centers. These facilities create a conducive environment for project construction and investment attraction.
