Guiyang Railway Station, once the third-largest station in southwestern China, recently ushered in a new stage of development with regular and high-speed trains now sharing the same platforms.

On Aug 8, this station in the capital of Guizhou province launched its G-series of high-speed trains for the first time, since it was first put into operation in 1959.

A total of 139 trains departed from Guiyang Railway Station that day, surpassing Guiyang East Railway Station's record of 120 trains but still lagging Guiyang North Railway Station's regularly scheduled 389 trains.

Regular-speed trains from Guiyang Railway Station currently run to such destinations as Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Wuhan, Xi'an, Chengdu, Kunming, Lanzhou, Hohhot, Shenyang, Changchun, and Urumqi.

Meanwhile, high-speed trains run to cities both within the province, including Liupanshui, Bijie, and Zunyi, as well as those that lie outside, including Chongqing.

Commuting by train is a practical choice for residents in Guiyang. For instance, in a single day, there are 82 trains between Guiyang Railway Station and Guiyang North, costing 5 to 9 yuan ($0.69 to 1.24) and taking just 9 to 12 minutes. In contrast, the metro ride between the two stations costs 5 yuan and takes approximately 23 minutes.
