The 2023 Bajiao Bay Innovation Conference opened in the Yantai Huang-Bohai New Area, Yantai, Shandong province on Aug 7.
The conference was aimed at promoting the high-quality development of China's new energy battery industry.
Attendees included academicians from the country's scientific research institutions, domestic and foreign experts and scholars, and industry insiders.
During the event, participants shared their views on the development trends and prominent technical challenges in the new energy battery technology and discussed ways to promote the integration of basic research and industrial application, as well as speed up the high-quality development of the new energy battery material industry chain.
Zheng Deyan, mayor of Yantai, said that Yantai has set a goal of creating a world-class and high-end fine chemical new materials industry cluster so that it can become a global petrochemical engineering hub.
Sun Haisheng, director of the Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province, said that Shandong has in recent years been focusing on the development of scientific and technological innovation, boosting the principal role of enterprises in innovation, and cultivating new driving forces.
Sun added that the province is currently accelerating the construction of a pilot zone for green, low-carbon and high-quality development.
Zhang Jin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and vice-president of Peking University, said that Peking University has always prioritized enhancing cooperation with local governments and enterprises, and taken steps to improve commercialization of scientific and technological innovations.
He added that the university will work together with industry leaders to turn the Bajiao Bay Innovation Conference into an internationally renowned platform for exchanging innovative achievements in related fields.
