Daiyue sets course for digital transformation

Daiyue district in Tai'an, Shandong province, is eyeing new industrialization and accelerating the digital transformation of enterprises to drive high-quality development.

Since last year, the district has empowered the industrial internet through cloud technology with favorable policies and some 64.25 million yuan ($8.99 million) actual paid-in investment. It has built three industrial internet platforms at or above the city level and four demonstration zones for integrating new-generation information technology and manufacturing, launched four provincial projects, developed four artificial intelligence application scenarios, and nurtured one benchmark enterprise in smart manufacturing.  

From January to June, the growth rate of investment in technological transformation and upgrading for the manufacturing industry in Daiyue reached 132.7 percent, and the rate of cloud adoption among large-scale industrial enterprises exceeded 80 percent.

Tai'an Zhonglian Cement Co is a typical example of local enterprises' digital transformation. It has established connected 5G base stations and realized full coverage of 5G networks in its mining areas where unmanned vehicles shut down production and transportation lines, achieving complete autonomy for drilling and rod changing. The company also significantly improves its labor productivity and saves 1,200 metric tons of standard coals annually. 

To date, the district is constructing network infrastructure such as 5G base stations and gigabit optical cables, introducing national industrial internet platforms, and collaborating with service providers to support the integrated innovation for leading enterprises in such fields as new materials, fine chemicals, food, and new building materials.   

Daiyue plans to provide free precise solutions for at least 30 manufacturing companies annually to promote digital transformation. The district will cultivate two provincial industrial internet key platforms and build more than 30 smart factories and digital workshops by 2025.
