A variety of Yao ethnic traditions were part of the Liuyueliu festival celebration on July 23 in Longsheng county, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. It was the sixth day of the sixth month of the Chinese lunar calendar.
On this special day, the women of the Red Yao people in Dazhai village had a joyful gathering during which they showcased their red costumes, combed their long hair, demonstrated how to make folk costumes and held a mass wedding.
The Liuyueliu festival is also widely known as sun clothes day — a day that local women hang their brightly colored costumes, mostly red, in the sunlight by the window, creating a feast for the eyes.
