Over 1,000 people suspected of disturbing social order and harming public security, including suspects involved in gambling and producing fake medicine, have been caught as the result of a recent campaign, Beijing police said.

The Beijing Public Security Bureau launched the campaign last week. Of those caught, 27 were detained by police in Huairou district on allegations of gambling, while 33 were detained in Chaoyang district on allegations of making fake medicine, according to a statement issued by the bureau on Monday.

In addition, police in Tongzhou district caught 23 people suspected of using the internet and information technology to commit crimes.

Furthermore, police across the city have been intensifying efforts to fight traffic-related violations since last week. So far, over 29,000 cases have been resolved.

To advance the campaign, officers have set up more than 4,000 stops around the city and distributed 950,000 leaflets to residents with tips on preventing fraud, theft and disputes.
