Located in downtown Zoucheng – a county level city administered by Jining in East China's Shandong province - the Zoucheng Museum opened to the public on June 29, 2002. Situated on a 24,500 square-meter site, it is a comprehensive historical museum integrating cultural relics collections and their protection, research and exhibition, as well as publicity and education. It is a national third-class museum and a 3A-rated scenic spot.
The museum now houses over 120,000 cultural items. There are four exhibitions themed on prehistoric cultural relics, ancient stone carvings, ancient bronze ware and precious cultural relics.
There is a contemporary exhibition themed on Zoucheng's history and culture on the first floor, covering a total area of 2,000 sq m and exhibiting nearly 1,000 precious cultural relics.
The second and third floors display the historical background, life story, main thoughts and profound influence of well-known ancient Chinese philosopher - Mencius - via pictures, cultural relics, multimedia tools and other mediums, covering a total of 5,000 sq m.
