Qingpu leads technological innovation in Shanghai

Qingpu district in Shanghai has in recent years been focusing on scientific and technological innovation to drive its development, local media reported.

The district has been continuously promoting the development of leading industries such as the big data, big health, and big retail sectors. It has also been actively involved in the construction of the "Yangtze River Delta Digital Hub" and the development of highly advanced industrial areas affiliated with the integrated high-tech technology industrial development zone in the Yangtze River Delta region.

These endeavors are aimed at accelerating Shanghai's transformation into a globally influential science and technology innovation center, and enhancing the district's ability to generate scientific and technological innovations.

In the first five months of 2023, Qingpu district's 92 major enterprises involved in information transmission, software and information technology services generated a total revenue of more than 19.2 billion yuan ($2.67 billion), a year-on-year growth of 50.7 percent - the highest in the city.

In addition, the district has consistently strengthened the formulation and implementation of policies regarding scientific and technological innovation. To achieve self-reliance in scientific and technological innovation, the district has accelerated the construction of its capacity for innovation. This includes further developing strategic emerging industries, nurturing innovation entities, and facilitating the application of scientific and technological achievements in industries.

The district has also promoted the establishment of innovation bases such as the Beidou Innovation Base, the Shanghai West Software Information Park, and the Huawei Research and Development Center, ensuring the continued development of the software and information service industry.

Recognizing talent as a core element in scientific and technological innovation, the district has sought to create an environment that is conducive to innovation, promote the convergence of science and technology with its financial resources and expedite the introduction of high-level talent.
