The chemical and new material industry is a characteristic industry combining the advantages of traditional industries and strategic emerging industries in Taizhou. In 2021, there are 420 enterprises above a designated size in the chemicals and new materials industry cluster that generated 152.97 billion yuan ($22.95 billion) in sales revenue.

Fine chemicals industry
- Industrial base
Taizhou's fine chemicals industry now numbers nearly 20 of the top 500 companies which produce more than 10 world "single champion" products. Advantageous industrial supply chains such as chlor-alkali and olefins are relatively complete and as a result an industry cluster has initially taken shape. The Taixing Economic Development Zone has ranked among the top 10 chemicals industrial parks in China for eight consecutive years and was included in the top five industrial parks in 2020, with an industrial refinement rate of 55 percent.

· Key strategic materials such as high-end resins, special rubber and engineering plastics, new materials for displays, high-end functional medical materials, new energy materials, high-performance fiber and composite materials
· High value-added daily toiletry products including those for oral care, washing and cleaning, beauty and health care products
· Health-related new materials industry such as medical materials for reagents testing, high-end medical ceramics materials
Petrochemicals industry
- Industrial base
Taizhou's petrochemical industry chain – led by CNOOC (Taizhou) Co Ltd – has been basically formed, owning platforms such as the Technology Quality Testing and Certification Center, the Environmental Monitoring and Early Warming Center and the East China Branch Center of National Engineering Research Center for Flue Gas Desulfurization etc.
